September
10, 2003 - New security bulletin released by Microsoft
Microsoft Corp. warned computer users Wednesday
about a new critical security hole in its Windows operating
system that could allow an attacker to gain control
over a computer, delete data and install unwanted programs.
The vulnerability is similar to one that Microsoft warned
about in July, which experts called one of the worst
to hit a software program in years because of the broad
number of Windows systems affected.

September
22, 2003 - Yet another mass-emailing worm is on the
loose.
W32.Swen.A@mm is a mass-mailing worm that uses
its own SMTP engine to spread itself. It attempts to
spread through email attachments (claiming to be patches
for Microsoft Internet Explorer) and file-sharing networks,
such as KaZaA and IRC, and attempts to kill antivirus
and personal firewall programs running on a computer.
This worm exploits a vulnerability in Microsoft Outlook
and Outlook Express in an attempt to execute itself
when you open or even preview the message. Information
and a patch for the vulnerability can be found here.
